Why vehicle recycling is the future?

Posted by on Mar 12, 2019 in Cheap Used Auto Parts, Cheap Used Auto Parts NYC, How To Change Radiators, Junk Car, Junk Yard Jamaica NYC, Used Auto Parts | 0 comments

The US automobile industry is massive. The United States is the fourth largest producer of automobiles in the world, right below Germany and Japan and just above South Korea. Supplying 5.5% of the world automobile supply, of which there are over a billion. The influx of vehicles to the US is added by the fact that the United States imports 179.6 billion USD worth of the world’s vehicle supply, the largest importer by a wide margin. This gives the United States a massive surplus in terms of available vehicles to be sold, increasing total ownership rates. This, combined with increasing costs of car repairs, as newer, modern cars are more complicated and rely heavily on computers, increasing time and effort to fix vehicles, have lead to a rise in new cars being bought.
This phenomenon has caused a rise in car recycling, with nearly 12 million cars recycled each year, 80% of all automobiles in the United States. So it is no wonder why the automobile recycling industry is the 16th largest industry in the US, adding $25 billion to the US GDP of 19.4 trillion, and employs over 100,000 workers. And the United States isn’t even the only country to recycle it’s cars, while the United States recycles 12 million cars, Europe recycles 8 million, and Europe saves about 80% of an original car through recycling, roughly the same as the United States. And surprisingly, the majority of US recycling measures are undertaken by small business, as 75 percent of all automotive companies employ less than 10 people. To add onto the benefits of recycling, North American car recycling programs have saved over 85 million barrels of oil from being used in making new or replacement cars.
Vehicle recycling is a beneficial alternative to complete scrapping, as it provides jobs, assists the environment, and is becoming an attractive new business. As recycling becomes more mainstream, and the demand for new cars starts pushing older cars into the recycling circle, the recycling business is turning into a quickly growing industry, and an excellent investment opportunity into a growing worldwide entrepreneurial field, that has room only to expand.

Is Your Car Ready for Winter?

Posted by on Jan 15, 2017 in Cheap Used Auto Parts NYC | 0 comments

Since the winter cold wind is in the air, here are some handy winter car tips we provide for you.

The Battery. Have some time to check on your battery, this will save you precious time on starting your car or avoiding a bogged down car. Boost up your battery with distilled water routinely, so the cells don’t dry out. Keep in mind not to use tap water! Corrosion can happen during the winter time, which looks like white or green growth around the terminals; this should be wiped away. If it’s too thick to remove, look into the kitchen for some bicarbonate or soda water. Make a glue of this by including some water, then brush it onto the terminals and wash off with hot water. If that doesn’t work, it may be ideal to buy new terminals. Ensure you don’t do any of this work on the yard or in your carport. The acid in the battery will kill the garden or leave white stains on the driveway.

The Tires. All tires, including the spare, should be inflated to the correct pressure. Look in the car owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s specifications. During the winter time, because of the cold temperature tire pressure tends to be low on reading. The difference in the tire pressure affects the grip of the tires when driving.

The Windshield. Keep your windscreen clean during the cooler weather. Dirt on the windscreen can limit your visibility when driving towards a low sun. For maximum visibility, windows should be cleaned regularly with a dedicated cleaner for the windshield but you can make your own by using dishwashing liquid dissolved in water.

The Windscreen Wipers. Once the winter rains begin, it’s important your wipers are up to the job. If they are perished or cracked they’ll be unable to wipe the glass effectively, causing streaks, smearing, and loss of visibility. They crack because of the cold temperature. Replace the wiper rubbers when the blades fail to wipe clean the windshield or chatter across the glass. When you wash your car, lift the blade from the screen, rinse with clean water and look for evidence of deterioration. Check if the reservoir bottle has a sufficient fluid level.

Put your car in the Garage. Try to park your vehicle under cover at night and try to avoid parking your car on the lawn overnight as damp rising from the lawn condenses on engine and ignition parts leading to current leakage. Condensation forming on the underside of the bonnet can lead to rust development.

Now you know this winter tips, be ready to hit the road and never get left behind. If you happen to find replacement parts for your car, visit us at New York City Auto Salvage and Glass. We will look after you. Just dial 718-297-9797.

Will you go for Manual or Automatic?

Posted by on Dec 17, 2016 in Cheap Used Auto Parts NYC | 0 comments

For your car to be able to get from point A to point B without having to stay trudging along in first gear, it needs a working transmission. The transmission allows the vehicle to change gears, thereby transferring power from the engine to the drive axle in the most efficient way possible. It does this by varying the gear ratio. In lower gears, this increases available power while reducing speed. Higher gears, on the other hand, reduce power and increase speed. This enables cars to distribute power and speed in the most efficient way for any given situation.

Now here is the difference between the manual and the automatic transmission.

Automatic Transmission

  • Easier to use. Although there’s nothing inherently difficult about shifting gears and working a clutch, it still takes a bit of practice before most drivers are comfortable learning to use each of their limbs independently to control a manual transmission vehicle. Automatic transmissions, by comparison, are much simpler and take drivers significantly less time to learn.

  • Less manually restrictive. Most new drivers are taught that the safest way to drive is to keep both hands firmly on the wheel always. This is possible when driving an automatic transmission vehicle, but is not possible with a manual transmission.

  • Better for hilly areas. If you’re a less experienced driver, you may find that navigating steep inclines in a manual transmission are difficult, especially if you’re attempting to do so from a dead stop. Automatic transmissions take care of this issue, enabling your car to operate efficiently no matter how steep the hill might be.

  • Greatly reduced the risk of stalling. There are few things more embarrassing and awkward than accidentally stalling your vehicle right when the traffic light changes. This isn’t a common problem for those driving automatic transmission, where stalling will only occur if there’s a mechanical problem in the vehicle.

  • Easier to use in heavy traffic. Overall, more work goes into starting, accelerating, decelerating, and stopping manual transmissions. This isn’t normally a problem, but in heavy traffic where a car can get up to speed, drivers may notice that the constant starting and stopping becomes a difficult chore. Automatic transmissions allow the driver to move through heavy traffic without having to do more than push a single pedal.

Manual Transmission

  • Less expensive to purchase. If you’re car shopping on a budget, then there’s really no contest between the manual and the automatic. On average, a manual transmission will cost you about a thousand dollars less than an automatic of the same model.

  • Cheaper to maintain. With all of the added machinery that goes into the automatic transmission, it can end up costing you more money for its maintenance. Manual transmission cars require very little maintenance, and generally maintenance and repairs end up being significantly less costly.

  • Better fuel efficiency. Overall, manual transmission engines are less complex, weigh less, and have more gears than automatics. The simpler it is, the lesser its likely to consume fuel. Manual transmissions have been known to save drivers between 5% and 15% on their fuel costs.

  • Less likely to be stolen. Your wannabe car thief should be a car geek at some point. Now with new generations of modern cars running around, stealing a manual car will be enough to deter the car thief. It is hard to steal a manual transmission car.

  • Better control. Automatic transmissions are designed to choose the best gear for any situation, but they tend to err on the side of caution, shifting to too high of a gear and wasting engine power. Manual transmissions give drivers greater control over the vehicle.

If this one helps you to decide whether to choose a manual or an automatic transmission car, New York City Auto Salvage and Glass can help you. We buy and sell a wide range of manual and automatic cars that might suit your needs. Just give us a call at (718) 297 9797. We will give you a hand!
